Obituary for Wilma Gladys Human

Wilma Gladys Human
Services for Wilma G. Van Ness Human will be on Monday, June 19, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Christian Church, 411 W. Matthews Ave, Stillwater, Oklahoma, with the Reverend John Bain officiating. Interment will follow at Fairlawn Cemetery, Stillwater, with Strode Funeral Home directing the arrangements.
Wilma Gladys (Van Ness) Human was born May 1, 1926 in Yale, Oklahoma to George B. Van Ness and Gertie A. Petitt Van Ness; she moved to her forever home in Heaven on June 11, 2017.
Wilma attended grade school and high school in Yale, Oklahoma, and graduated in 1943. Later she attended the Oklahoma College of Liberal Arts in Chickasha, Oklahoma.
Wilma married Maynard Bernard Human on June 24, 1944, and they were married 72 years. They made their home in Stillwater until 1952, when they moved to Anadarko, Oklahoma. The couple remained in Anadarko until 1984 when Maynard retired, and they then returned to Stillwater. During this time, Wilma was a homemaker and a domestic engineer. She had many creative talents which she enjoyed, which included sewing, landscaping, interior decorating, painting, writing poetry, and researching her family history. Wilma published a book of poetry, and she won several Editors’ Choice and Honorary Awards from the World of Poetry and the International Society of Poets, of which Wilma was a lifetime member.
Wilma enjoyed helping others, and during her life, she and Maynard quietly helped friends and family in various ways, which included, as one example, grocery shopping and delivering groceries to nearby handicapped friends for 20 years. Wilma was also active in various organizations when her daughters were growing up, including Band Boosters and Campfire Girls. Wilma was also a member of Sorosis Club and the Tulip-Rose Garden Club.
Maynard and Wilma were long-time members of the First Christian Church in both Anadarko and Stillwater, where Wilma taught Sunday school (in Anadarko) to the younger members of the congregation. Wilma was also a member of the Sarah Circle, which she enjoyed very much.
In 1988, Wilma traced her family line back to an American Revolutionary War soldier, and to preserve this research for family members, she wrote and published a book of her family history. As a result of her genealogy research, Wilma qualified to join the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Daughters of the American Colonies. She held offices in each organization, including the offices of Registrar and Regent. Wilma enjoyed helping others prove their family history so they, too, could join these organizations.
In retirement, Wilma and Maynard landscaped a beautiful Japanese garden in their yard, which they enjoyed for many years. In addition, the couple traveled to Europe, Hawaii, Alaska, the Caribbean, and spent many happy weeks in southwestern Colorado almost every year. Wilma and Maynard were members of the Cowboy Country Good Sam Club of Stillwater, frequently traveling in their RV with fellow members. The couple moved to Edmond, Oklahoma in 2016 to be closer to family.
Survivors include her husband Maynard, of the home in Edmond, two daughters, Kaye Frampton Murray and her husband Chuck, of Hedgesville, WV, and Sue Corbett Watson and her husband Eric, of Edmond, OK; three granddaughters and six great grandchildren: granddaughter Kelley (Frampton) Kubic and her husband Chris, of Charles Town, WV, and great grandson Jack; granddaughter Lorelei (Corbett) McGrew and her husband Patrick, of Edmond, OK, and great granddaughters Lauren and Avery; granddaughter Summer (Corbett) Weaver and her husband Michael, of Excelsior Springs, Missouri, and great granddaughter Magdalena Murray and great grandson Samuel Weaver; great granddaughter Mackenzie Frampton of Frederick, MD (daughter of Jamie Frampton), and dedicated caregivers Lois Boyles, Quisha Cole, Lynet Okemwa, Angela Ray, and Krystal Boyles, who have become family.
Wilma was predeceased by parents George B. Van Ness and Gertie A. Petitt Van Ness, her brother Hershal Van Ness, her grandfather and grandmother John M. Van Ness and Martha D. (Blazer) Van Ness (who raised her after her mother died the day Wilma was born), and granddaughter Jamie Frampton (daughter of Kaye Frampton Murray).
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Stillwater Mobile Meals, or Life Spring Hospice, Edmond and Norman, OK.
