Obituary for Carl LeRoy Jones

Carl LeRoy Jones
Carl LeRoy Jones, 84, entered heaven to join family and friends on June 12, 2017 in Stillwater, Oklahoma. His funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 20, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Stillwater, Oklahoma.
Carl was born on February 7, 1933 in Ponca City, Oklahoma. He was the only child of Willard Albert and Imogene Jones.
He spent his childhood growing up in a rural community, working at his parents feed store, and a local gas station. Growing up in this small community Carl developed a deep sense of respect for nature and the environment. He was also a member of the 4-H club, FFA, showing cattle, and Demolay.
In 1953 he enlisted into the Army with his best friend, Glenn Willson. He faithfully served his country for 3 years. 1 ½ of those years was spent in Frankfurt, Germany. Carl was a Supply Sergeant upon his discharge.
After leaving the Army, he graduated from newly structured Oklahoma State University. Although he made several lifelong friends, the most life-changing event was meeting his future wife, Judy. Judy and Carl wed in Bennett Chapel on campus on June 8, 1958.
Carl graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Animal Science in May 1959. Following his graduation the couple moved several times but returned to the Stillwater area where they raised their two beautiful daughters, Jennifer and Amy.

Carl was also a dedicated member of the First Presbyterian Church where he served as a Deacon. He was employed at the Payne County Department of Health as a Health Inspector. He decided to further his education and obtained his Masters degree in Environmental Science in 1969 from the University of Oklahoma. He continued his employment with the Department of Environmental Quality with the State of Oklahoma until his retirement in 2008. After Retirement he worked at Gose and associates for six years. He loved people, life, and was, “always humble and kind.”
His love for his community was shown through his dedication to serving others. He was a board member of the Mobile Meals program and served as the secretary for several years.
Carl is preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
He is survived by his wife and two daughters, Jennifer Peters; Amy Adney; 4 grandchildren; and 1 great-grandson.
In lieu of flowers please send gifts to Judith Karman.
