Delbert James Dodrill
1928 – 2017
Graveside services were held Wednesday morning, July 19, at 10:30 am, for long-time Perkins resident Delbert James Dodrill, 88, who passed away on July 15, 2017, at his rural home east of Perkins.
One of six children, Delbert was born in rural Perkins on July 23, 1928, the son of Dewey James and Nora Ruth (Johnson) Dodrill. Delbert married Norma Lee Hardy on July 7, 1947, and to this union two daughters were born; Sherry Lynn and Debra Sue. Delbert and Norma Lee celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary one week before his passing.
Early in his life, Delbert ran a milk route and farmed southwest of Perkins. He later also did custom farming and worked as an oil & gas well pumper. In 1974, Delbert worked in the oil & gas field full-time and sold his farming interests southwest of Perkins, moving to a home three and one-half miles east of Perkins. Delbert also loved purchasing older vehicles, restoring them, and then reselling them, as he had a completely furnished mechanical shop. His greatest joy, however, was being with his family.
Delbert is survived by his wife of the home, Norma Lee; one brother, Cecil Dodrill of rural Perkins; daughter, Sherry Lynn Thomas (husband Mark Thomas) of Colorado; daughter, Debra Sue McCullough (husband Richard McCullough) of Perkins; four grandchildren, Stacey McDonald of Perkins, Kristie Humphrey of Perkins, Clint Stanton of Frederick, Colorado and Richard (Rich) McCullough of Tulsa, Oklahoma; fourteen great grandchildren, Carlton, Gabriel, Allison, Heather, Lilly, Ian, Cole, Josie, Bradley, Derek, Kevin, Jack, Drew, and Elisabeth.
Delbert was preceded in death by his parents Dewey and Nora; brothers, Dewey, Rellen, and Edwin; sister Rosella.
Funeral arrangements are by Strode Funeral Home with the Reverend Michael Cannon, Immanuel Baptist Church, Perkins, officiating. Burial will be in Perkins Cemetery.
