Obituary for Carol Drummond

Carol Drummond
Carol Ann Killian Drummond, 74, passed from this life on August 1, 2017 in Stillwater, OK at her home after an extended illness.

Carol Ann was born to Byrle and Caroline Killian on December 25, 1942 in Stillwater joining older brother, Eddie. She recalled many fond memories and friendships from her days at C.E. Donart High School, Yost Lake, and Mrs. Lynch’s Dance Studio. She then went on to study English at Oklahoma State University where she was an active member of Kappa Kappa Gamma, going on to later serve as a chapter advisor. She soon met Leslie Drummond who managed to persuade her into marriage and a life on his family’s ranch in Hominy, OK. Together, they raised four children in the country and were very involved in the local community. She was passionate about mentoring young men and women as they navigated their formative years and found ways to engage this passion in many capacities. She was part of the First Presbyterian Church leadership team and helped direct the youth programs. During the week, The Drummond School of Dance saw to the instruction of many dancers where they learned to channel their creativity and build self-confidence.

As her own children grew up, Carol Ann began to consider the ways in which she may continue to impact young people. At that point, she began her PhD studies, eventually earning a doctorate in counseling psychology and enjoyed a twenty-year career as a child psychologist in the Tulsa area before retiring to take on her final mentoring role as full-time Mimi. Her nine grandchildren cherish the memories of the sixteen “Mimi’s Great Adventures” she planned to foster a family bond while exposing them to the world, both near and far. She had actually planned the 17th trip for this past week. We know she smiles from above seeing us all together as she intended.

Carol Ann leaves behind her children Gentner (Wendy), David, Jonathan, and Caroline Drummond; grandchildren Cate Hildebrand (Daniel), Alexander Drummond (Mary), Madeline Cooper (Connor), and Jack Drummond; Allison and Christine Drummond; Ben, Graham, and Zach Tawwater; great-grandchildren Adeline and McKenna Drummond and Hallie Hildebrand. The family would like to extend thanks to Angie Loveless for her assistance in caring for Mother during these final weeks. Additionally, Carol Ann leaves behind many wonderful nieces, nephews, cousins, friendships, and her sweet puppy LuLu.

She is preceded in death by her parents, brother, and husband Leslie.

Funeral services will be 2:00pm Saturday, August 5, 2017 at the First United Methodist Church in Stillwater with Pastor Kyle Anderson officiating. Interment will follow at Fairlawn Cemetery. There is no formal family visitation scheduled, but the family will be available following the burial. Donations in Carol Ann’s name may be made to Friends of The Drummond Home and sent to 305 N Price Ave, Hominy, OK 74035; or to the Karman Legacy Hospice in Stillwater, OK.
