Obituary for Woody DuPree
Woody Allen DuPree, 87, died on September 6, 2017 in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Family will greet friends from 7:00-8:30 p.m. on Friday, September 8, 2017 at Strode Funeral Home. His graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 9, 2017 at Fairlawn Cemetery in Stillwater, Oklahoma, with Pastor John Bugg officiating. Arrangements are entrusted to Strode Funeral Home, Stillwater, Oklahoma.
Woody was born on August 9, 1930 to Eddie Richard and Hazel Ruth (Johnson) DuPree in Stillwater, Oklahoma. He married his high school sweetheart, Jessie Ardyth Redburn in Winfield, Kansas on February 14, 1947, and the couple celebrated 70 years of marriage.
He was a Stillwater High School graduate. Woody enlisted in the U.S. Army in May 1948 and was deployed to Germany as part of a military unit to disable explosive devices following the end of World War II. He was honorably discharged in May 1950. Woody owned and operated DuPree Welding and Supply in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Much of his welding and steel work is scattered throughout the Stillwater area. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed fishing and hunting trips with family and friends. He also loved the outdoors spending countless hours on his tractor and watching wildlife. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Stillwater, Oklahoma.
He was predeceased by his parents, Eddie and Hazel DuPree; sons, Eddie Robert DuPree and Ricky Wayne DuPree; infant son, Jay Douglas DuPree; and brothers, James Edward DuPree and Jerry Richard DuPree.
He is survived by his wife Jessie Ardyth DuPree, one son, Jesse Allen DuPree and wife Diane; one daughter, Shelley Gay Hungerford and husband David; grandchildren, Michael May, Jennifer Fillmore, Stephen Skoch, Jessica Price, Joshua DuPree, and Jacquelyn DuPree; great-grandchildren, Berkley Beard, Brooks Price, and Grayson DuPree; and sister, Cheri Richardson.
Pallbearers will be Stephen Skoch, Joshua DuPree, Paul DuPree, Kevin Fillmore, Doug Price, and Kendall Swaffar.
