Thomas Walter Welp
Tom Welp, 80, loving husband of Barbara Welp, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday morning, November 26, 2017. There will be a special service for the family at Sunset Memorial Garden in Stillwater, OK at a later date.
Tom was born on June 21, 1937, in Campbell Hill, IL, to Rev. Harry C. and Alma Welp. He and Barbara Sternberg were married on June 6, 1959, by his father, Rev. H.C. Welp, in Campbell Hill, IL. Tom and Barbara had 58 wonderful years together.
Upon finishing high school, Tom entered the U.S. Navy and served on the submarine, the U.S.S. Baya. This was something that he had always wanted to do. After his service to his country, he worked in the printing business for 40 years. He worked in Sparta, IL, Effingham, IL, Nashville, TN and Stillwater, OK. He was dedicated to his work and also to the people who worked for him. After retiring, he mowed lawns, along with wife Barbara, who helped him for 8 years. They enjoyed mowing and working together. He still mowed 15 lawns this past summer. He enjoyed people and never met a stranger.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Todd; sisters, Phyllis Russell and Marion Welp; brother, Paul; nephew, Scott Rohlfing; brothers-in-law, Bob Russell and John Russell.
Tom is survived by his wife, Barbara; daughters, Jodi Bosler (Bob) of Stillwater, OK and Tricia Pettiford (Mikel) of Garland, TX; grandchildren, Matt (Michele), Aaron (Cara) and Josh (Stephanie) Bosler of Stillwater, OK; Kelsey and Lexus Pettiford of Garland, TX; great grandsons, Jack and Bryck Bosler of Stillwater , Cayson Pettiford of Garland, TX; great granddaughters, Layni, Lauren, Angela and Allie Bosler of Stillwater, Nina Bradley of Stillwater, Tristynn Singleton and Kylee Pettiford of Garland, TX; sisters, Doris Russell of Beverly Hills, FL, Ruth Rohlfing (Ken) of Campbell Hill, IL and Vera Huey (Bob) of Effingham, IL.
