Sam L. Hamilton, 73, of Stillwater, OK, died Wednesday, May 16th at his home.
A visitation will be held at Strode Funeral Home on Sunday, May 20, 2018 from 7:00pm to 8:30pm. Services will be at 1:00pm on Monday, May 21, 2018 at the First Presbyterian Church in Stillwater, OK. Interment will follow at 4:00pm at Fairlawn Cemetery.
Sam was born July 25, 1944, in Stillwater, OK, to John W. Hamilton and Mignon C. (Lindsay) Hamilton-Thomas. He graduated from Oklahoma State University in December of 1967 and then entered the Air Force as a 2nd Lieutenant. He was stationed at Travis Air Force Base in California where he was assigned to SAC (Strategic Air Command). He then was sent to Vietnam as a Captain, Logistics Officer with MAC V SOG (Military Assistance Command, Vietnam, Studies & Observations Group). Following his tour in Vietnam, he was assigned to the 20th Tactical Fighter Wing RAF, Upper Heyford, England, USAFE. During his service, he received many commendations as well as was awarded the Bronze Star. Following his honorable discharge, he worked for Stillwater Typewriter Company for over 25 years.
He was a life member of the American Legion, Hanner-Sharp Post 129, Stillwater, and awarded life membership in Oklahoma Steam Threshing and Gas Engine Association of Pawnee, OK. He was a founding member of the Stillwater Antique and Classic Car Club as well a founding member of the Heart of Route 66 Region of Vintage Chevrolet Club of America. He enjoyed restoring old tractors and "hit 'n miss" old farm engines, attending gas engine shows and "tooling" around in his old cars. He especially enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren and hearing all the latest activities they were involved in.
Sam is survived by his wife of 34 years, Becky Hamilton. He is also survived by his son, Scott L. Hamilton and Carrie Daigle of Owasso, OK; daughter Krista K. Neal and Brandon of Stillwater; grandchildren, Kaich, Elizabeth, & Zoe Neal; brother John L. Hamilton and Arlene of Waxahachie, TX.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to American Legion, Stillwater Humane Society or charity of your choice. Services are entrusted to Strode Funeral Home, Stillwater, OK.
