Leave a condolence

Condolence From: David Bennett
Condolence: Dear Cousins Kathy, Clint, and Sandy,

I am very sorry to hear of your mother's, my aunt's passing. It is only a little over a year since my mother passed.

I am so glad that I had a time to speak with Aunt Mary last May at the memorial for my mother.

Aunt Mary was a delight.

Condolence From: Teresa Richmond
Condolence: Dear Clint, Sandy and Kathy, and all of Mary’s family,

My heart was broken Saturday night when I heard of Mary’s passing. I adored her and often thought of her as my “second” mother. From the day I met her, she became an integral part of the fabric of my life—especially during the trials of young motherhood.

Her wisdom, listening ear and hilarious tales, helped this then-young mom survive widowhood, navigate new roles and relationships, and even inspired some Mary-tested-and-approved child psychology.

I can still hear my children calling out, “Hi Mary! Hi Wyndol!” from across our street and their greetings being echoed back. A piece of candy, or a few coins—thoughtful gifts for the kids. Their love for my babies was generous in spirit and in kindness.

It is hard to accept that I won’t hear her voice on the other end of the line if I call. Hard to believe that I can’t stop by and be welcomed once again into the oasis of her small living room, or sip a cup of coffee with her.

She mourned the passing of my first husband, Mark, and we mourned the passing of Wyndol. Yet we shared a friendship for 30 years and I am so, so very grateful for that.

She was a mother when I needed to be mothered. A friend, when I needed a friend. A counselor when I needed a listening ear, and one of the funniest, orneriest people I may ever know!

I am grateful to know that she stands in the presence of the King for she is surely royalty. She was rich in all the things that matter most—in love, in laughter, and in life—and she shared them all generously with all who knew her.

Sweet Mary, your legacy lives on in the beautiful children and grandchildren and great-grand children you leave behind. And it lives on in my heart too.

Someday we shall sit together again. Won’t that be a day? My granny didn’t believe in saying “goodbye” and I don’t either, so instead, “I’ll see you later.” Until that day comes, I will hold you close in heart, one of my most precious blessings.

Thank you for being my friend.

Forever grateful,
