Obituary for Curtis Leland Lazenby

Curtis Leland Lazenby
Curtis Leland Lazenby passed on Sunday, June 26 at 1:52 pm, in Tulsa, OK at St. Francis Hospital. A memorial service will be held Monday, August 8, 2016 at 2:00 pm at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Chapel at 2324 W. 26th in Stillwater, OK. Strode Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Curtis was born 11 May 1960, in Provo, Utah to Ferrell Curtis and Marba Wilson Lazenby. He was the oldest of nine children. As a child he lived in Provo, Blanding, Aurora, Mt. Pleasant, and Granger, Utah before his family moved to Norman, Oklahoma in 1970. In high school he was a member of the varsity cross country track team and was an Eagle Scout. He served in many capacities in the church, including a 2 year full time proselyting mission to Rome, Italy from July 1979-81.

He was married and sealed to Cynthia Ann Murphy in the Jordan River Temple, 29th of December 1988. They were sealed by Cynthia’s first mission president, who was also the temple president at that time. He completed 2 degrees in from Oklahoma State University, one in Management Science Computer Systems and one in Marketing with Minors in Accounting and International Business. He was a computer programmer for Strode Funeral Home. He loved and cared for 5 dogs and 1 cat. He continued reading and using his Italian to the end.

He was a lifetime member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. His standards reflected that He was known for a person of great deeds of service to so many. He was always the last person at the end of an event to help clean up. He loved serving in the Oklahoma City Temple these last 6 years with his wife.

One of the things Curtis loved to do when with others is to tell his colorful tales from his mission in Italy. He also loved to tell stories of his great, great grandfather George Deliverence Wilson. He admired his ancestor for his bravery and devotion to the Church. Though George Deliverance was very devoted to Joseph Smith, when the prophet passed away he continued to honor the new living prophet who sent him to start many new locations in the Utah territory. His stories and updates about what his parents did were also a part of his tales.

Curtis is survived by his parents and his wife Cynthia Lazenby, his brothers and sisters with their families. All he loved and admired. He is preceded by his grandparents whom he loved as well.
