Obituary for Jack Ikard Fryrear

Jack Ikard Fryrear
Jack Ikard Fryrear was born August, 1923 in Blairstown, Missouri to Fay Cornelius and Vera Marticia Fryrear. He departed this life March 22, 2017 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma at the age of 93 years, 7 months, 3 days. Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 am Thursday, March 30 in the Brill Chapel at Epworth Villa, 14901 North Pennsylvania, Oklahoma City 73134, followed by graveside service at 3:00 pm at Sunset Memorial Garden, 6500 S. Perkins Road, Stillwater, Oklahoma 74074. Strode Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Jack attended school in Tuttle, Oklahoma, graduating from High School in 1942. February 1943 he was inducted into the US Army and was a member of the Reconnaissance Platoon of the 740th Tank Battalion. His unit was mobilized in World War II in the Campaigns of the Battle of the Bulge, the Battles of the Ardennes and the Rhineland and served one year in the Army of Occupation in Germany. He proudly served his Country earning 3 service stripes, 3 overseas service bars, American Theatre ribbon, 3 bronze battle stars, the Belgian Croix du Gere, EAME Theatre Campaign Ribbon, European Theatre Ribbon, Sharp Shooter medal, good conduct medal, Army of Occupation ribbon and the Victory ribbon.
Jack married Betty Jean Bowling October 16, 1946 in Tuttle, Oklahoma. He attended Okmulgee Tech School earning an Associate degree in architectural drafting. The Agricultural Engineering Department of Oklahoma A & M College in Stillwater was being expanded and Jack was hired for the drafting services and to do plans for the research projects in farm structures in May 1949 and Daughter Charla was born in October of that year. Jack earned his BA Degree from OSU the same year daughter Charla earned her Master’s Degree.
Jack and Betty designed their home in Stillwater with Jack doing the floor plans and Betty designing and drawing the plans for the cabinets. They moved in October 1, 1961. Jack enjoyed working in his yard and planting a big garden and of course Betty had to can what he produced. He enjoyed the Department's Jolly Boys outings and weekend fishing trips. He was a member of a special group in the Department called the Frugal Four meaning they were very frugal. Not tight just frugal. 1975 the 740th tank Battalion Association was formed and started having reunions every Labor Day weekend alternating between Dallas and Oklahoma City. Jack and Betty were devoted attendees even hosting in Oklahoma City for a number of years and Jack was treasurer for many years.
Jack retired from OSU in 1984 and he and Betty spent the winters at Tropic Star RV and Mobile Home Resort in Pharr, Texas. Jack enjoyed golfing in the Park's 9 whole golf course and he and Betty especially enjoyed Ballroom dancing 2 to 3 nights a week. They and friends made many trips across the border to Mexico and had get-togethers each week. Age caught with Jack and after 27 winters in south Texas they sold their place and stayed in Oklahoma.
Jack and Betty chose to spend the remaining of their lives at Epworth Villa in Oklahoma City so they sold their home in Stillwater and moved to Epworth where Jack continued to garden 2 to 3 plots in Epworth's garden section supplying friends with some of his produce. He especially enjoyed the men's coffee every morning.
Jack was very caring, gentle and protective of his loved ones. He is survived by his wife Betty of Epworth Villa and daughter Charla and Mike Lowery of Tulsa, sister Charlene Stinchcomb of Minco, Okla. , brother J. W. Fryrear and wife Phyllis of Nevada, Missouri, sister-in-law Barbara Patton of Norman, Okla., and a number of well loved nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by his parents, half sister Lois Wanda Kanoy and husband Alan of California and sister-in-law Jean Fryrear of Nevada, Missouri,
Flowers may be sent to Epworth Villa, 14901 N. Pennsylvania, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma 73134, or Strode Funeral Home, 610 S. Duncan St. Stillwater, OK 74074.
