William Glenwood Herald
Dr. William G. Herald was born on May 30, 1924 in Canon City, Colorado to William and Luella Herald. William, known as “Uncle Glenwood” by his close relatives, passed this life to be with his Lord on Saturday, October 14th, 2017. His graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, October 19, 2017 at the Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Dr. Herald and his wife Leona have been longtime members of the First Christian Church of Stillwater. He spent his early years helping out on the family farm in Colorado before the family eventually moved to Tryon, Oklahoma in search of more stable work.
William excelled in his studies while in Junior High, and he also became very interested in mechanical science during this time. He soon became one of Tryon High’s more gifted students which enabled him to receive future scholarship opportunities at Oklahoma A&M.
During his time in Tryon, he met the love of his life, Leona M. Underwood. Upon High School graduation, William entered Oklahoma A&M to study Pre Medicine in hopes of one day becoming a doctor. William enlisted in the Army and served his country proudly, becoming a Sargent First Class and receiving an Honorable Discharge at the end of the war. After the war he completed his pre-med studies and enrolled at the University of Kansas City Dental School of Medicine. He graduated in 1952 with honors in the top 10 of his class.
After receiving his Doctor of Dental Science degree, the couple moved back to Stillwater to establish a Family Dental Practice. The couple worked together with their Family Dental Practice in Stillwater for 42 years.
William was very active for many years in the Lions Club of Stillwater and greatly enjoyed his charitable work. He also had a huge passion for constructing and flying the 75 plus model planes he built. In addition to his love of music, William also had a passion for art and enjoyed painting in his spare time.
