Obituary for Nancy Harter Maxwell

Nancy Harter Maxwell
Nancy H. Maxwell crossed over to heaven on June 9, 2018, at home in Blackfoot, Idaho, with her children by her side. Services will be 1:00pm Friday, July 27, 2018 at the First Presbyterian Church of Stillwater, 524 Duncan, Stillwater, OK 74074 with a reception to follow. There will be a Celebration of Life at Camas National Wildlife Refuge in Hamer, Idaho from 8:00am to 12:00pm on September 22, 2018. This will truly be a celebration with birds, food, hay rides through the refuge and fun for kids.

Nancy was born March 15, 1939 in Faribault, MN to Samuel O. Harter and Doris Bryant Harter.

After graduating from Shawnee Mission Sr. High in 1957, Nancy attended the University of Pennsylvania on full scholarship earning a BS in Secondary Education in 1961, then taught high school English and American History. She proudly conquered alcoholism in October 1973, then made a career change and spent approximately 30 years serving in child welfare social work. During this time, she completed her Master’s Degree in Human Relations from University of Oklahoma in 1987 and completed all course work (sans completing her dissertation, her biggest regret) to achieve her PhD in Applied Behavioral Studies. Nancy valued every opportunity to learn something new and was always passionate about helping others. She blessed the lives of everyone she met.

Nancy was extraordinarily dynamic and talented. She loved God and believed strongly that the Holy Spirit lead her through life. She had lifelong passion for books, German Shepherds, birds, wildlife, watercolor painting, writing poetry and long articulate letters, religion, politics, debate, calligraphy, traveling, gardening, sewing and giving gifts. The organizations that she served in and supported throughout her life are innumerable.

Nancy is preceded in death by both parents.

Nancy is survived by one daughter, Melissa Caldwell (Josh) of Blackfoot, ID; two sons, Richard Maxwell of Texarkana, TX (Tina) and Darwin Baker (Christie) of Council Bluffs, IA and seven grandchildren.

Memorial donations may be made, in her honor, to Friends of Camas NWR Inc, 2150 E. 2350 N., Hamer, ID 83425, which is a Camas National Wildlife Refuge support organization that Nancy was pivotal in starting and put her heart and soul into. www.friendsofcamas.org
