Loyd Wesley Vaughn passed away Saturday, June 23, 2018, at the Oklahoma Heart Hospital, Oklahoma City. He will be remembered for his big smile, fun-loving nature and generous spirit.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, June 27, 2018 and Thursday, June 28, 2018 from 9:00 am to 8:00 pm at Strode Funeral Home, 610 S. Duncan, Stillwater, Oklahoma, with family greeting guests Thursday, June 28, 2018, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. A celebration of his life will be held Friday, June 29, 2018 at 2:00 pm at Lost Creek United Methodist Church, 8002 South Washington, Stillwater, Oklahoma. Rev. Steve Vaughn and Rev. Darryl Hicks will officiate. Private family interment will be at Osage Cemetery, Agra, Oklahoma.
Loyd was born on August 15, 1936, to Elton Loyd Vaughn and Mildred Irene Fine Vaughn on their farm near Enochs, Texas. He attended Bula School in that community where he was an outstanding football player. He was named to the 1955 Texas All-State Football Team. After leaving school, he farmed with his family and attended Phillips 66 Management Training Program, employed in Lubbock, Texas.
He married Glenda Rae Hicks, on June 27, 1959, in Elkhart, Kansas. They established farming operations in Muleshoe, Texas, then relocated to Hereford, Texas in Deaf Smith County. In 1983, the Vaughns were named FHA Farm Family of the Year for their production and progressive farming operations. They moved to Stillwater in 1983.
He leaves behind his wife, Glenda Hicks Vaughn, his three sons: Gerald Loyd (Sandi), Ft. Mill, South Carolina and their children Rebekah (Mike) Woods, of Mooresville, North Carolina and Laurel Vaughn, Nashville, Tennessee; Steven Lynn (LeeAnn) Vaughn, Lewisburg, Pennsylvania and their children Keileigh (Nolan) Neugebauer, Conroe, Texas and Kamron (Kaylee) Vaughn, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; and Travis Glen Vaughn, Stillwater, Oklahoma. Loyd is also survived by his five great-grandchildren: Alexis and Madelyn Woods, Kaleb and Addie Neugebauer, and Silas Carl Vaughn.
One brother survives: Virgil (Janice) Vaughn and their son Brian (Michelle) of Turlock, California. He is survived by aunts, cousins, and brothers and sisters-in-law and their families.
He was preceded in death by his father, Elton Vaughn; mother, Mildred Fine Vaughn; and step-mother, Millie Lewallen Vaughn.
Loyd was a member of Lost Creek United Methodist Church, served on the Kairos Prison Ministry Team and Walk to Emmaeus Group. He loved God and wanted others to know Jesus. He will be greatly missed by this family and friends, as well as his beloved little pet buddy, Gorgi.
