Obituary for Phyllis Madge Mayberry

Phyllis Madge (Webster) Mayberry, 88, passed from this life in Tulsa, Ok. on Monday, August 6, 2018, on the 25th anniversary of her father’s death. A viewing will be held at Strode Funeral Home on Monday, August 13, 2018 with the family greeting friends from 7:00pm to 8:30pm. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 14, 2018 at Fairlawn Cemetery in Stillwater, OK. A memorial service will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the Stillwater First United Methodist Church with Reverend Mike Chaffin and Reverend Kyle Anderson officiating.

Phyllis was born September 15, 1929 in Stillwater, OK to James E. Webster and Verna I. Webster. Phyllis married James Grant Mayberry on June 10, 1949 at Stillwater United Methodist Church. She graduated from Stillwater High School and Oklahoma State University earning a B.S. degree in Home Economics. They lived in the communities of Tulsa, Wilson, Pauls Valley, Ardmore, and Okmulgee, but made their final home in Stillwater, moving there in 1979.

Phyllis was a member of the Stillwater United Methodist Church serving in the United Methodist Women. During her time in Pauls Valley, Phyllis taught youth at the United Methodist Church and was president of the Parent Teacher Association. She was also a member of many Stillwater and Oklahoma State University social organizations including Hands Around the World (hosting international students), Daughters of the American Revolution, Antiquers Club, Gem and Mineral Society, Delta Zeta, Phi Beta Kappa, and Good Times Sams RV Club. She loved playing bridge with her girlfriends and cheering on her beloved Oklahoma State Cowboys.

Phyllis had experience working as an elementary and home economics public school teacher, but the majority of her career was as a homemaker. She loved hosting family and friends in her home, spending time with her grandchildren, cooking, playing bridge, sending cards and letters, getting to know her neighbors, taking care of her beloved pet, Miss Kitty, and attending church. She loved making new friends and always had a deep concern for the welfare of everyone she knew. She was a prayer warrior.

Phyllis is survived by her children, Jim David and Jan Mayberry of Pauls Valley, Susan and Don Adkison of Tulsa, Scott and Kris Mayberry of Drummond; grandchildren, Jeana and Terry Naugle, Ryan and Misty Mayberry, Brent and Lauren Adkison, Stephen Adkison, Brian Adkison, Rachel Mayberry, Hailey Eatherly, Trent Mayberry and fiancé Shayna Silkwood, Blaise Mayberry; thirteen great-grandchildren and a soon-to-be great, great-grandchild; niece, Laura Marshall; two nephews, Frank and Rob Webster and a host of friends all over the world.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim; her parents and brother James Lang Webster.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Stillwater First United Methodist Church or the OSU Foundation through Strode Funeral Home.
