Obituary for Ty Cobb O'Donnell

Ty Cobb O'Donnell
Ty Cobb O’Donnell left this life on Sunday, January 13, 2019 after 34 years of being loved by family and friends. Visitation will be held from noon on Wednesday, January 16, 2019-Thursday January 17, 2019 at Strode Funeral Home. His friends are invited to help his family say goodbye. Ty’s family will be together at Strode from 6-8 Thursday to welcome friends who want to share memories. Services will be at 2:00pm on Friday, January 18, 2019 in the Multi-purpose Building at Carney Schools, 204 Carney Street. Interment will follow in the Perkins Cemetery. Strode Funeral Home and Cremation is in charge of the arrangements.

Born in Stillwater Medical Center on November 6, 1984 to Ted and Susan O’Donnell he lived most of his life in the Lincoln and Payne County areas. He graduated from Carney Schools, participating in all sports and spending all of his young school life there. He attended Northern Oklahoma College on a baseball scholarship and eventually earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science at East Central University, Ada, OK. As an adult Ty followed the family tradition and became a plumber and a member of Local 344 Plumbers and Pipe fitters out of Oklahoma City, where he was employed at his death. He married Ashley Savage on August 23, 2008 and they have a daughter, Tyley Dawn. They were later divorced.

Ty was a member of Scottish Rite Guthrie Valley as a 32nd Degree Master Mason and Albert Pike Masonic Lodge #162 in Guthrie as a Third-Degree Master Mason. He also was Oklahoma CLEET certified. Ty loved his God and was an active member of the United Methodist Church. He leaned on the guidance of his spiritual mentor, Janey Wilson. Ty made great friendships during his time at Carney Schools and at East Central University. He loved being out with people, laughing and sharing good times. But, above all, he loved his Dad and Mom and his family: never failing to tell them so. He spent wonderful times with Tyley, his daughter, watching her in school functions and at holidays. He relied on his nephew and best friend, Jake O’Donnell, for loyal friendship through the troubles and joys of life.

Ty is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Charles and Laurel O’Donnell of Carney and his maternal grandparents, Bob and Ruth Loftin of Coyle; two cousins, Josh Baker and Brian Loftin.

He is survived by his daughter, Tyley O’Donnell of McAlester; his parents, long-time Lincoln County Commissioner Ted O’Donnell of Perkins and Susan Loftin of Perry; as well as brothers: Teddy O’Donnell Jr and wife Jodi of Perkins; Tommy O’Donnell and wife Tara of Perkins; Bret Shaw and wife Courtney of Winterset, Iowa; Babe O’Donnell and wife Jennifer of Tryon. Sisters include Kim O’Donnell of Stillwater and Cara Shaw and wife Christina of Mustang. He also leaves 14 nieces and nephews and numerous loving cousins, extended family members and great friends.

Memorial contributions can be made at the Strode Funeral Home, 610 S. Duncan St. Stillwater, OK. 74074 where a fund has been established to help support his daughter in her education.
