Obituary for Michael Myron Denny

Michael Myron Denny
Michael Myron “Mick” Denny was born on December 19, 1935, in Stillwater, Oklahoma to Charlie Glen Denny, Sr., and Gertrude Michael Denny. He left for better on April 4, 2019, at 83 years old. Mick graduated from Stillwater High School in 1954, then attended Oklahoma A&M before deciding he knew more than his professors did.

Mick served as a drill sergeant in the National Guard until 1963 and owned and operated a dairy farm east of Stillwater until he retired to focus on his hobbies after 43 years. If you knew Mick, you knew he was a very curious man with numerous hobbies and he attended to them with one overall pant leg stuck in his black Cowboy boots. Whether it was genealogy, making wine, competing in BBQ cook-offs, horse drawn farm implements and sleigh rides with his Percheron mares, Polly and Duchess, CB radios, Angus cattle, working dogs, gardening, the latest technology or beekeeping - Mick enjoyed his hobbies to the fullest.

As Darrell Stiles said in 1977, “Myron Denny’s middle name is work.” He was a member of the Ingalls-Glencoe Masonic Lodge and received his 50-year pin, a State FFA Farmer, served on the board of directors for the Payne County Soil Conservation Service, CREC Ambassador, Payne County’s Outstanding Young Farmer of 1968, Farm Family of the Year in 1977, Payne County Dairy Herd Association President, member of the Agricultural Committee for the Stillwater Chamber of Commerce, Chairman of the Agriculture Stabilization and Conservation Service Community committee, member of the Payne County Cattlemen’s Association, Boy Rotarian of the Year in 1954, Superintendent of Dairy judging at the Payne County Fair, DHIA Oklahoma President and was named the top alfalfa producer in Payne County multiple years. Mick was instrumental in the Dairy Barn being built at the Payne County Fairgrounds. He was a progressive member of the community who had a special interest in programs and educational activities for Payne county youth and adults.

One of his proudest accomplishments was that he lived longer than any other Denny. For his milestone 80th birthday, he wanted to have a big party with a band and good food - even if he had to pay for it.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother Charlie Glen “Chuck” Denny, Jr.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Sally (Meyer) Denny; 3 children Kelly (Denny) Hamlin and husband John of Skiatook, OK; Tom Denny of Glencoe; Judy (Denny) Goeringer and husband Bill of Glencoe.

Mick is also survived by his 7 grandchildren, Molly Hamlin, Jake Hamlin and wife Jennifer, Alison Denny, Casey Denny, Jack Denny, Will Goeringer and Kate Goeringer and great grandson, Lane Hamlin.

Honorary pallbearers: Jack Hesser, Darrell Stiles, Bill Bernhardt, Jr., Calvin Nichols, Mike Schroeder and Steve Schroeder.
We are very grateful you raised us on this land. The soil contains our blood, sweat and pride, that makes it so grand. Farming for a living is very tough, but you succeeded in more ways than one. From the wildflowers in Spring, to the grazing cattle on the land. This farm holds a magic that only a Denny can understand.

Mick will be remembered as the best son of a bitch you’ve ever met. He liked to watch Raymond, infomercials, OSU wrestling and eat good food. Mick loved popcorn so much that his CB handle was Popcorn. He loved a good story and would laugh until he could barely breathe and ask you to tell that story again as he slapped his knee.

His life was good enough for who it’s for and he’s had better, but not today. Maybe.

A memorial service will be held at Strode Funeral Home on April 10, 2019, at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the OSU Foundation designated to the Insect Adventure Support Fund (P.O. Box 1749, Stillwater, OK 74076) or the Karman Legacy Hospice of Stillwater Medical Center (604 S. Walnut, Stillwater, OK 74074).
