Sandy’s love for her family, and for others, was evident to all who knew her. She never forgot a birthday or special event, and she loved to make her loved ones feel special with cards for every occasion. Anytime she could make someone smile, Sandy was truly happy. She served alongside her husband in children’s ministry for over 30 years, and they were the Children’s Pastors for Solid Rock Church in Stillwater. Sandy’s quiet joy was the perfect complement to Johnnie’s boisterous energy; they loved making children smile and leading them to know the love of Jesus.
Sandy was proud of her career with the US Postal Service, where she worked as a mail carrier for over 25 years before retiring in 2009. She started the Stamp Out Hunger program at the Sand Springs post office and was known there as “Smiley” because she always had a genuine smile on her face and loved to make others smile with her.
Johnnie and Sandy were truly a match ordained by God. They loved to travel from cruises to local camping with Johnnie by her side. She loved baseball and the New York Yankees and in March, she and her daughter Jennifer attended Spring Training in Florida. Sandy’s life was spent bringing joy to others, which brought her so much happiness in return.
Sandy is survived by many who love her, including her daughter, Jennifer, and Jennifer’s husband Josh, her grandchildren: Cade, Cale, Brooklyn, Blair, Sadie, and Payne; her sister, Deborah (Dinkel) Nieman and husband Gregg; and her beloved nephews: Peter Strecker, his wife Tara, and their children Morgan and Connor; James Strecker, his wife Angie, and their son Rowan; and Gates Nieman. Family was very important to Sandy, and she is survived also by many extended family members in the Zwinger, Dinkel, Owen, Baker, and Brandsness families, whom she loved dearly.
