Harry Eugene Wallace died peacefully at home on Tuesday, July 30, 2019 at the age of 88. A memorial service will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, August 3, 2019 at the Strode Funeral Home Chapel.
Harry was born March 5, 1931, in Arkansas City, KS. His family moved to Norman, OK when he was young. He graduated from Norman High School in 1949 and earned an accounting degree with honors from the University of Oklahoma in 1953. While in college, he was a member of the Army National Guard and served in the Korean War as a corporal in the ambulance company medical battalion. He was honorably discharged in 1952.
At OU he met Paula Mathers and they married in 1952 and made their home in Norman. They had two children, Suzy and Sam. He spent most of his career as the accountant for Barbour and Short Construction Co. of Norman.
Harry was very active in the Jaycees during the 1960’s and served in various leadership roles including secretary, treasurer and president on both the local and state levels. He was also honored to be elected to the United States JCI Senate. In Norman, he was one of the first members of University Christian Church, where he was in charge of the Building Committee and personally worked on the construction of the church building. He also served as an elder and Sunday School teacher there.
After retiring in 1996, Harry and Paula moved to Stillwater in 1997. They joined Sunnybrook Christian Church and became a part of the Senior Saints ministry there. He was an active church member until failing health made him housebound. Harry joined the Golden K Kiwanis club where he served as president, and was also active in the University Estates Homeowners Association, serving as its president as well.
After 49 years of marriage, Paula preceded him in death in 2001. Several years later, he met Faunetta Lewis at church, and they married in September, 2008. They had several happy years together before she passed away in August of 2016.
Harry became a private pilot in 1983. Other hobbies included woodworking and sailing. He was a man of many talents with a wonderful sense of humor.
In addition to his wives, Harry was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Leona Wallace, brother Joseph Wallace, Jr., sister Norma Mauldin, and his beloved son, Sam.
He is survived by his sister, Mary Alice Hammon; daughter, Suzy Adamson (Robert), and stepchildren Wayne Lewis, June Pentecost (Kevin), and Linda Westerman; grandchildren, Ben Adamson (Jennifer) , Rachel Savage (Taylor) and step grandchildren, Jordan Lewis, Grant Pentecost, Miranda Simpson and Dana Pentecost Schaffner and their spouses; great-granddaughter, Nolan Savage and step great grandchildren, Rylee Jo and Hunter Simpson, Hayley and Austin Lewis, Luke Pentecost and Emma Schaffner, and several nieces and nephews.
