John Richard (Jack) Carpenter died in Stroud, Oklahoma on October 14, 2019 at the age of 90. His service will be 2:00pm on Friday, October 18, 2019 at the First Christian Church in Stroud, Oklahoma officiated by Tracy Wilson. Strode Funeral and Cremation is in charge of the service.

Jack was born on September 20, 1929 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Paul F. and Ruth Riley Carpenter. He graduated from Stroud High School in 1947 and from OSU in 1951 with a degree in Business Administration. He worked in insurance, real estate and was a home builder. The First Christian Church held his membership.
As part of his community, he assisted the Stroud Food Pantry, served on the Stroud Industrial Authority and at the time he was elected Stroud Mayor he was noted as the youngest Mayor in Oklahoma history. He also served the Stroud Fire Department for 27 years retiring as chief and was the 1992 Citizen of the Year.
He was preceded by his parents and his brother Paul Carpenter Jr.
Jack is survived by his wife, June and their children Anne Jones, Mary Lynn Hill, Steve James, Cathy Reese and Ken Carpenter as well as grandchildren, Jessica Slater, Will Jones, Maggie Jarrett, Abby Rhodes, Ryan Reese, Reagan Reese, Rachel Reese, Kelly James, Sarah Stewart, Andrew James, Joe Carpenter and Paul Carpenter. In addition, are great-grandchildren Sofia Slater, Felix Slater, Ruth Jarrett, George Jarrett, Frank Jarrett, Brody Rhodes, Owen Reese, Henley James, Eli James, Noah Stewart, Luke Stewart, Griffin Stewart, Eleanor James and Thomas James.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given in Jack’s name to the Stroud Food Pantry, 211 N. 3rd Ave, Stroud, OK 74079.
