Kathy Jean Platt was born in Watonga, Oklahoma on November 29, 1949. She passed away in Tulsa, Oklahoma on November 21, 2019.
Kathy graduated from Classen High School in 1968. She received a BA from Oklahoma University and an MA from Central State University. She spent 40 years in the newspaper business as a copy editor. Kathy began her career at the Daily Oklahoman in Oklahoma City and then moved to Texas to work for the Houston Chronicle. In 1989 she landed her dream job, Stars and Stripes (Germany), where she spent ten years. She visited many European countries, old and new. After returning to the U.S., she worked for the San Antonio Express-News. Kathy concluded her professional career as Director of the Sac and Fox National Public Library at Stroud, Oklahoma.
Kathy was preceded in death by her father, Leonard Platt. She is survived by her mother, Jean Platt; brothers, Martin Platt (Cindy) and Mike Platt (Lupita), and three nieces, Bailey Platt, Paige Platt and Kacie Platt.
A celebration of Kathy’s life will be held at Johnnie’s Charcoal Broiler (her favorite), 33 E. 33rd St., Edmond, Oklahoma from 1:00-3:00 p.m. on what would have been her 70th birthday, Friday, November 29, 2019.
