Doris June Layes, 86, died December 10, 2019 in Stillwater, Oklahoma with her loving family by her side.
Family will greet friends at Strode Funeral Home from 4:00 to 5:30 pm on Saturday December 14, 2019.
Her funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, December 15, 2019 at the Strode Funeral Home Chapel in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Her interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Garden. Strode Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
She was born on April 13, 1933 to Amon O. and Ethel Daisy Bates in Paris, Arkansas. She married William F. Layes, Sr. on November 23, 1948 in Scranton, Arkansas.
Doris moved to Oklahoma in 1935. She attended Lincoln and Stillwater High School until she was married in 1948. The couple moved to Ft. Smith, Arkansas, returning to Stillwater in 1956. They moved to Perkins, OK in 1961, where she worked at Ralph’s Packing for six years.
Doris worked at OSU in the Personnel Office for 16 years until her retirement in 1990. She was known as a quilter and loved crocheting. It was tradition for each child, grandchild, and great-grandchild to receive a quilt made by Doris and Bill.
They always took their grandchildren fishing and camping in Cassville, Missouri on the Roaring River. Family always meant the world to Doris and she loved each of them deeply.
