He graduated High School from Shidler, Oklahoma in 1961, where he met his High School sweetheart Patricia Jones. They were married in 1962, and went on to have two sons, Warren and Mark Jones. The Family moved from Oklahoma to Cedar Vale, Kansas, where both sons graduated High school, and then received college degrees in Oklahoma.
Alvin spent years in the highway construction industry where he gained respect and the experience needed to eventually begin his own construction company in Oklahoma. He was best known as owner and president of his construction company for 25 years in both Kansas and Oklahoma. Alvin was fondly referred to as “Chief” by those close to him.
Alvin set the gold standard for work ethic. He was dedicated to providing for his family, his workers and his workers’ families. On the job site and off the job site, he took care of those around him – making sure his workers were well fed and taken care of. He worked hard and selflessly, and was patient to teach those around him to do the same. You’ll still find this Alvin-like work ethic in all of the Jones men he loved and taught, Warren, Mark, Daniel, Michael, Matt and Jacob. He leaves a legacy of leadership, commitment and selflessness that is unparalleled.
His life in Stillwater was revolved around his family, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. One of Alvin’s favorite past-times was taking his grandchildren for after-school snacks, or attending ball games or dance recitals. He would teach his grandsons how to work any and every piece of equipment he had. But it wasn’t all work with Grandpa, he was sure to entertain his grandkids too, like giving them their very own three-wheeler to drive around “The Ranch”. Alvin even brightened the community – making front-page news with his show-stopping Christmas lights display one year. He enjoyed the last 34 years of his life with his wife Patricia in Stillwater, surrounded by their large family.
Alvin Lee Jones is preceded in death by his parents, Lee and Velma Jones, brothers Dennis Michael Jones, Arnold Jones, and Paul Jones. He is survived by his wife Patricia Jones, brother Daniel Jones and sisters Donna Flood and Ester Epperson, his sons and their spouses, Warren and Lisa Jones and Mark and JoDee Jones, his grandchildren and their spouses, Daniel and Trista Jones, Michael and Amanda Jones, Matthew Jones, Kristen and Jeremy Love, Jessica Jones, Kathryn Jones and Ahmed Omar, Taylor Jones and Jacob Jones, his great-grandchildren Kaden, Alorha, Aliyah, Aubry, Ben, Oliver, Lucy, Charlotte, John Thomas, Abigail and all his beloved nieces and nephews.
