Joy was born October 16, 1936, in Amber, Oklahoma to Albert James Swindell and Mae Lee Swindell. She graduated from Hominy High School in 1956. In high school she was active in FHA, mixed chorus, pep club and the Drum Corps. After graduation she went to work as a map draftsman at Kelly Map Company in Tulsa, OK. During this time, she met the love of her life Jack Dale Long and was united in marriage January 22, 1960. During their 60 years of marriage they were blessed with 2 wonderful children - Wesley James Long and Jill Ann Sanders.
Joy excelled in her love of children as she loved to teach. For many years she taught at a Mother's Day Out ministry and also taught the 2 & 3-year old Bible Class at the Carbondale Church of Christ in Tulsa, OK.
Jack and Joy moved to Stillwater in 1998 so that they could be involved in their grandchildren's lives. She never missed any of her grandkids' ballgames, plays, or any other functions. Her world truly evolved around their lives. Joy was an astute Bible student who loved to read. She took excellent notes on sermons, Bible classes and workshops she attended throughout her life.
Her name Joy was a true description of her life as she brought Joy into the lives of all who knew her.
Joy is survived by her husband of 60 years, Jack Dale Long, her daughter, Jill Ann Sanders and husband Michael Eric Sanders, three grandchildren Allison Victoria Denny, Casey Ann Denny and Jack Thomas Denny, sister Penny Rudisell, and brother A.J. Swindell.
She is preceded in death by her parents and son, Wesley James Long.
