Obituary for Nila Joyce Matzat

On Wednesday, April 22nd, Nila Joyce Belknap Matzat, passed on to a place of eternal peace while at home with husband, Dick Matzat. Nila’s Celebration of Life service will be at 10 am, Friday, August 14, 2020 at First United Methodist Church, 400 W. 7th Ave. Stillwater, Oklahoma. Her ashes and those of her husband, Dick Matzat, will be inurned in the columbarium at the church after the service. A live-stream of her service will be provided by contacting First United Methodist Church, (405) 372-5854. Nila Joyce Milligan was born on January 9, 1932 in Sapulpa, Oklahoma to Richard Milligan and Leliah Mayfield Milligan. She grew up in Stillwater, attending the public schools till her senior year in 1950. She married Robert King of Stillwater, in 1949 and they had a daughter, Gloria Sue. Later, she married W. K. ‘Bill’ Belknap Jr, in 1960 and had another daughter, Rhonda Ann. Her final marriage was to Dick Matzat in 2011, who provided her love and comfort in her last years.
Nila was very active in the community. She was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church of Stillwater, the Charitus Sunday Class, United Methodist Women, Church Women United, SMC Volunteer Auxiliary and FCE Cherokee Club. She had also been a member of the Stillwater League of Women Voters. Nila loved being involved and giving of her time and talents to these organization and the missions they supported. She became a Registered Nurse in 1979, spending several years at Mercury Marine in Stillwater, where she was affectionately known as Nurse Nila. Her pastimes included genealogy, sewing, cross stitch and watching the birds at her feeders. She dearly loved her Lord, her near and extended families and the friends she made throughout her life’s journey.
She was predeceased by her parents, her brothers Chet and Richard, her sister Janice Parker and her grandson, Shawn Putman. She is survived by her daughter Sue Putman of Tomball, TX, daughter and spouse Rhonda and Terry Wright of Stillwater; granddaughters and their spouses: Jennifer and Denny Singleton of Cypress, Tx, Sarah and Joseph Wilhelm of Grove, OK; her siblings Betty Jo Milligan, Karen Evans, Dean, Jim and Bob Milligan. She leaves three great granddaughters and one great, great grandson. At the time of this notice, her husband, Dick Matzat, has also passed from us and joined her on July 20, 2020.
As her family, we wish to honor the professionals who provided care to her: Her physicians, Stillwater Medical Center and the staff of 5th floor, Westhaven Nursing Home, Karman Legacy Hospice and the staff of Christian Villa.
