Obituary

Grace Marie (Peckham) Cather was born in Stillwater, Oklahoma, February 1, 1937 to John A. and Mary Frances (Harris) Peckham. She died on Wednesday June 17, 2020 at her home after a lengthy time of struggling with sleep apnea, narcolepsy, and kidney failure.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday June 22, 2020 at the Strode Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Stillwater.

She married Charles Calvin Cather in Stillwater, Oklahoma, on December 18, 1958 and celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary before his death.

Grace graduated from Onapa High School in 1956. She was employed at Woolworths in Dallas, Texas, for a year after high school. She attended Oklahoma A&M (OSU) in 1957 until her marriage. She was a devoted wife and mother to their four children. She loved her family and was always ready for any kind of family gathering.

Grace enjoyed movies, car trips, and church events. She missed very few Sundays as she attended church services at First Baptist Church and Nazarene Church of Pawnee, Grace Baptist and Emanuel Baptist of Stillwater and Coyle Christian Church of Coyle.

Grace was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Calvin Cather; her parents, John A. and Mary Frances Peckham; and brother, John Cecil Peckham.

She is survived by her sons, Donald Cather, Claremore, OK., Paul Cather and wife Shirley, Coyle, OK.; her daughters, Linda Matheson and husband Rodney, Coyle, OK., Charlotte Fairchild and husband Roger, Checotah, OK.; sister, Linda Mayhall, Blue Springs, MO.; brother, Ray Peckham, Checotah, OK.; eight grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, nine nephews, six nieces, several cousins, and many friends.

Aunt Grace and Uncle Charles hold a dear place in our hearts. To me, Aunt Grace was always calm and caring. My remembrance of her from so long ago whatever was going on with us wild children, she kept us together or pulled us apart as the case was needed. More together than apart. She was masterful at making peace in the family, calming everybody down. She loved her family and it showed. Uncle Charles was such a rich source of support too. Friendly and loved to have fun to joke and laugh. They will both be missed. We were blessed to have them. Sincerely, nephew, Richard Anthony Peckham
