Heaven gained an angel late Wednesday night when God decided he wanted Dan to join Him. He spent a super fun evening of dinner and fishing with his son-in-law, Danny before experiencing a heart arrythmia. He will be missed by so many people who knew him. He was kind, caring, loving and the most generous person in the world. If you were fortunate enough to know him, there is no doubt you loved him and the feeling was mutual. He will be missed everyday by family members and close friends, but especially missed by his wife and best friend of more than 55 years, Marilyn Romer Middlebrook . We know he is entertaining everyone in Heaven with his jokes, stories and his sweet smile. We will all see him again and be together for eternity.
Dan was born in Macon, GA to Wayne and Marie Middlebrook. Dan’s dad was a career US Army man which took Dan and his two sisters, Shirley and Patsy, to various states and countries. During the 2nd World War, his family lived in Germany and after several years returned to the United States. The final stop for the family was Fountain- Ft. Carson, CO. Dan graduated from high school, 1960, in Fountain-Ft. Carson and went on to play college football.
In November, 1964, Dan was working for General Foods in Denver, CO and it was at this time he met the love of his life at a bowling alley! They were engaged to be married February 11, 1965 and married in Emporia, KS (Marilyn’s hometown) on June 19, 1965. Who says you need to know somebody a long time before choosing the perfect mate?
Dan was in the US Navy Reserves and was called to active duty August, 1968 during the Vietnam War. He floated the high seas on a Navy destroyer named the USS Vogelgesang and later was transferred to the aircraft carrier, USS Bonhomme Richard. After active service, Dan remained in the naval reserves for a total of 12 years.
He worked in the transportation business for various companies across the United States before deciding to move to Oklahoma and run a locally owned business. The Middlebrooks moved to Cushing, OK in August, 1982 when Dan decided to go into business for himself. He became the owner of a moving and storage company, located in Cushing, but after a few years decided to branch into the warehousing business, so moved to Stillwater in 1992 and established Middlebrook Moving and Storage. He remained in the industrial storage and warehousing business until his retirement. In his retirement, he thoroughly enjoyed his new venture as an Uber driver! He loved his role as an Uber driver and woke up every morning excited to meet all the interesting people in Stillwater and visitors from various states and countries. He treated everyone like his best friend which made Ubering a great retirement gig!
