Gen was born to parents George Washington and Agnes (Lisankis) Smith on August 9, 1942 in Lake Lynn, Pennsylvania. She studied Linguistics at Kansas State University where she won an award for public speaking. Genevieve held many jobs over the course of her working career, but she was always the proudest of her work as an administrator with the American Red Cross. It was there that she shone, as she was able to coordinate assistance to people in their times of need.
Gen was the devoted mother of seven children. She was the mother of five biological children and adopted two of her grandchildren. She is survived by three of her biological children: Claire Hanaee, Alan Silver, and David Silver and their respective spouses; two grandchildren whom she adopted and raised as her own, Brittany Smith and Aaron Smith; 14 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by one brother, Paul Powell.
Gen was preceded in death by both parents, her two children, Tina Conner and Jason Herter, and five brothers.
More than anything, she enjoyed being with her family. She taught us to cook and crochet, but
most importantly, to care. She was many different things to many different people; her strength
and love reached far and wide and touched countless lives.
