Dorothy Louise Bates, 85, was called home by her Lord and Savior on Thursday, August 6, 2020. Her funeral service will begin at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, August 11, 2020 at the General Assembly and Church of the Firstborn in Stillwater, Oklahoma with her interment following at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Stillwater. Strode Funeral Home and Cremation is in charge of arrangements.
She loved nature. In her younger years she could catch, clean, and fry a fish better than anyone. She always kept an immaculate lawn, looking for any reason to mow it. Her porch was always full of lush plants, and her lawn lively with animals, wild and stray. She loved playing games, when she won, she made sure you didn’t forget it.
She was baptized into the General Assembly and Church of the Firstborn, serving Christ in all her years. She’ll be sorely missed by all that knew her.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents Mock and Minnie Lyle; husband Paul Bates; son Glenn Bates; and daughter Sharon Melton; and her brother Marlon Lyle.
She is survived by Julia Reed of Pocola; Peggy and Steve Grant of Stillwater; Patricia Graham of Stillwater; Melvin Lyle of Universal City; 12 grandchildren; and many more great grandchildren.
