Agnes Elizabeth (Novotny) Skoch passed away peacefully September 11, 2020 in Stillwater, OK. The Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:00 am Friday, September 18, 2020 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 711 N. Country Club Road. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be at the church from 8:30 to 9:45am. Strode Funeral Home and Cremation is in charge of arrangements.
Agnes was born January 21, 1925 to Joseph and Frances (Janda) Novotny on the family farm in Chickasha, Oklahoma. She was educated in Amber public schools and graduated from Amber High School in 1942. Following graduation, she was employed as a clerk/typist (during WWII) at Borden General Hospital in Chickasha. She also served as USO hostess at the American Legion.
In 1947 she married Clyde Henry Skoch in Chickasha. They spent 46 years together and raised three children, Larry, SueAnn and Mark. Both Agnes and Clyde were of Czech heritage, spoke the language, and enjoyed the dance, food, and music of the Czechs. They lived their first year of marriage in Okmulgee, OK and moved to Stillwater in 1948.
After moving to Stillwater, Agnes became a career homemaker. She served in Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, and as PTA/homeroom mother during the years her children attended St. Francis Xavier Catholic School. She enjoyed sewing, crochet, knitting and embroidery. She especially enjoyed her yard, flowers, and the birds. She was a member of St. Francis Alter Society and Agriculture Engineering Wives club.
Agnes is survived by her son Larry and wife Paula and her daughter SueAnn and husband Donnie; her sister Martha O’Reilly and husband Jim; and her 8 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. She is predeceased by her husband Clyde; her son Mark; her great-grandson Luke; her parents; her sister Mary as well as two sisters who died in early childhood; and her brothers Cyril, Joe, Rudy, and Louis.
