Lorraine was born July 8, 1929 in Springfield, Illinois to Alford Gerne and Elva (Adams) Rogers. When she was a few months old they moved to Galveston, TX and then to Thomas, OK where her sister, Julia Ann was born. The family lived with Elva's mother, Mary Florence Adams. Lorraine was raised in the Church of the Brethren and was baptized when she was 12 years old.
Her first 10 years of schooling was in Thomas. In April 1944, she married Jack Calvert before he left for service in WWII. They later divorced and she married Stephen Ballew and moved to the farm northwest of Arapaho, OK. They divorced after 7 years and Lorraine moved to Stillwater, OK where she met and married the love of her life, Buzz (L.E.) Owens in 1953. To this union three children were born; Alice, Brenda and Wesley. In 1961, they sold their home in Stillwater and bought an acreage near Ingalls, OK where they lived and raised their children who attended Ripley schools.
Lorraine kept the Ingalls Cemetery records for 56 years. She loved helping people during the loss of their loved ones and to find their relatives and genealogy. She learned a great deal of history of the Outlaw town and enjoyed sharing it with others. She and her husband also enjoyed helping to establish the Ingalls Volunteer Fire Department.
Buzz and Lorraine were very active with their children's activities including the 4H horse club, Ripley Roundup Club, parades and trail riding. Their door was always open at the Owens house with neighbors dropping by for a cup of coffee or just to visit. It was common to see a yard full of kids on horses. Lorraine gave birth to 3 children but had many who called her Mom.
She worked on the Oklahoma State University campus for many years - 7 years at the Kappa Delta sorority house, 17 years in married student housing and maintenance. After her retirement from OSU she worked as an election official for the Ingalls precinct and then after moving back to Stillwater she served at the Roxie Webber precinct. Lorraine thrived on being around people and volunteered at the Stillwater Medical Center snack bar, Judith Karman Hospice thrift store, etc.
Her greatest pleasure came from music and she loved singing at the senior citizens in Stillwater, Ingalls and Perkins three nights a week. Her most asked for song was "Pistol Packin' Mama".
Lorraine is preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Buzz Owens; father, Alford Gerne Rogers and mother, Elva Rogers Harper; brother-in-law, Sam Frans; sister-in-law, Maxine Owens Smith.
She is survived by her children: Alice Boydstun and husband John of Mulhall, OK; Brenda Miller and husband Roland of Kinta, OK; and Wesley Roger Owens of Stillwater, OK; grandchildren: John Boydstun II, Mandy Davis and husband Shawn and Seth Owens; great-grandchildren; Cyrus Davis, Dakota Boydstun, Rydell Davis, and Eli Owens and her sister Judy (Julia Ann) Rogers Frans; and nieces and nephews and their families.
Pallbearers: John Boydstun II, Seth Owens, Shawn Davis, Cyrus Davis, Rydell Davis, and Dakota Boydstun.
