Yvonne Marie (Lacy) Evans, age 81, passed away on October 22, 2020 in Guthrie, Oklahoma. Her funeral will begin at 10:00 a.m. Friday, October 30, 2020 at the Strode Funeral Home Chapel, Stillwater, OK. Interment will be at the Perkins, OK cemetery. Strode Funeral Home and Cremation is in charge of arrangements.
Yvonne Marie Lacy was born the fifth child of James Henry and Goldie Mae (Bostian) Lacy in Perkins on December 2, 1938. Yvonne attended school in Perkins graduating as Valedictorian of her Eighth grade class and Salutatorian of her Senior Class in 1956. She went on to attend OSU for one year while working at the Perkins Journal as Society Editor.
On June 6, 1957 she was united in marriage to Robert L. Evans at the First Christian Church, Perkins. Max Horner officiated at the ceremony.
Bob and Yvonne owned and worked side by side in weekly newspapers in Seiling, Barnsdall, Inola and Perkins during their more than fifty years of marriage. They owned and operated Evans Publications. They were both active in organizations in the respective towns and supported and encouraged community pride. Yvonne served as Chamber of Commerce secretary in the Perkins, Barnsdall and Inola communities for several years. She was also a member of the MI and PEO Clubs.
They were inducted into the Half Century Club of the Oklahoma Press Association in 2004.
Yvonne enjoyed several hobbies including ceramics, tole painting, sewing, reading and was an avid OSU Cowboy fan. She also found great enjoyment from being with friends at music night at the Perkins Senior Center.
The couple had three children, Joel Robert, a 1976 graduate of Barnsdall, Lacy Ann, a 1979 graduate of Perkins and Lloyd William, a 1987 graduate of Perkins.
After Bob passed away on June 4, 2009, two days from their 52nd Wedding Anniversary, she moved in 2010 to Perkins to be close to her sisters.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Bob, two sisters, Maxine (Turnham) Adkins and Lorayne Hughes, and brother, Norris Lacy.
She is survived by her children, Joel Robert of Tulsa, Lacy Patrick and her husband, James “Wimp” of Perkins and Lloyd William and his wife Kenna of Stillwater; six grandchildren, Danielle and husband, Heath Maddox of Perkins, James Robert and wife, Yvonne, of Skiatook, Anna Kate, William, Kassidy, and Kennedy of Stillwater; four great grandchildren, Jasmine, Aidan, Killian and Connor; one great great granddaughter Gwyn Medeiros; sisters, Mrs. Geraldine Allen and husband, Wayne of Perkins, Mrs. Martha Bowyer of Perkins, Judy Lacy of Lahoma and numerous nieces, nephews and their families.
