Charles was born on May 5, 1939 to Charles and Delia Swart in Stillwater, Ok. He attended Stillwater Public Schools and graduated in 1958. In the summer of 1959, he met Susie Ware.

They dated from 1959 until they were married on April 21, 1962. While they were dating, he joined the Oklahoma Army National Guard where his future father-in-law, Horace Ware, was the Company Commander. Charles liked to joke saying that Horace made him “sign on the dotted line” before he would allow him to date his daughter. Charles had 6 months of active duty before transitioning into the Oklahoma Army National Guard Reserves. This allowed Charles to attend OSU Okmulgee studying auto mechanics. After graduation, he was recruited by a Cadillac-Oldsmobile car dealership in Pampa, Texas as a line mechanic. Shortly before Charles and Susie welcomed their first child Stacey, in October 1968, Charles’ father suddenly passed away. Charles felt he needed to move closer to home to be able to help his mother. In April 1969, Charles, Susie, and their 6-month old son moved back to Oklahoma. Charles got a job in Warr Acres at JC Penney’s again as a line mechanic. In November of 1969, Charles learned about a full-time position with the Oklahoma Army National Guard as a technician. He became a full-time civil servant with the National Guard in addition to being a member of the Guard. This position was in Pawnee, OK so the young family moved to Pawnee. Charles and Susie welcomed their 2nd child Shelly in 1970 and their 3rd child Shawna in 1975. After the Pawnee Armory closed, the employees/guard members were transferred to the Stillwater Armory. Charles retired from the Oklahoma National Guard in 1992 after dedicating 32 years of his life to serving his country.

Charles was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather and avid OSU fan. He enjoyed watching Cowboy football and Cowgirl basketball, along with, wrestling and baseball. Charles loved to grill / smoke meat. He experimented with all kinds of seasoning rubs, marinades, and various types of wood for smoking. He also loved his cattle and tended to them daily. If you could not find him at home or in town having coffee with buddies, he was in the pasture with his cows.

Charles is preceded in death by his parents Charles and Delia Swart of Stillwater, OK; and his sister Louise Hicks of Clearwater, KS.

Charles is survived by his wife of 58 years Susie Swart of Pawnee, OK; son Stacey Swart of Pawnee, OK; daughter and son-in-law Shelly and David Duer of Broken Arrow, OK; daughter and son-in-law Shawna and Brian Thompson of Chandler, OK; five grandchildren: Faith (Thompson) Nietenhoefer and husband Austin of Stillwater, OK; Ian Thompson and Grace Thompson of Chandler, OK; William Duer of Stillwater, OK; Abigail Duer of Broken Arrow, OK; his brother and sister-in-law Raymond and Glenda Swart of Warr Acres, OK; brother-in-law and sister-in law Bill and Dawn Ware of Perry, OK; along with a numerous of cousins, nieces, and nephews.
