Judith (Dee) K. Finnegan passed from this life on October 26, 2020 from complications from Frontal Temporal Dementia (FTD). Her rosary service will begin at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 28, 2020 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. Her funeral mass will begin at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, October 29, 2020 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Her interment will begin at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, October 31, 2020 at Fairlawn Cemetery in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Strode Funeral Home and Cremation is in charge of arrangements.

Dee was born in St. Louis, Mo., October 10, 1940, to Romeo and Catherine Molla. She attended parochial schools through high school in St. Louis, and then attended Quincy College in Quincy, Illinois. She transferred to Southeast Missouri State College after working as a secretary at Aeronautical Chart and Information Center.

She married Rex Finnegan on June 2, 1962. They lived in Columbia, Missouri, while Rex attended graduate school, and then returned to St. Louis where their daughter, Coleen was born. In 1965 they moved to Cape Girardeau, Missouri, where their son, Timothy, was born. They then moved to Stillwater, Oklahoma, where they made their home for the next 53 years except for a year away in which they lived in Morgantown, West Virginia, and Atlanta, Georgia.

Dee finished her B.S. degree in Sociology at OSU in 1980 after the children were attending school and went to work at the Financial Aid Office as a Financial Aid Counselor, a job she held for the next 26 years.

She enjoyed reading, especially mystery novels (she had the uncanny ability to know the culprit within the first chapter or two and ruined many a mystery movie by divining the murderer by scene two!). She also enjoyed socializing with her stitchery group, spending time at their cabin in Colorado, meeting old college friends to ski each year in Tahoe, California, and visiting her children and grandchildren, Daphne, Riley and Braden. She was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church and was also was an active member of the St. Francis Xavier Altar Society. She retired from OSU in 2000, freeing her to do more travel and take cruises.

Dee and her husband interacted extensively with the Cadets of the OSU Air Force and Army ROTC departments, hosting dinners and dessert discussion get togethers, especially during the holidays. They did this for 25 years, up until she became ill in 2012. She was so admired by the Cadets that they named the Air Force Auxiliary unit the Dee Finnegan Chapter of Silver Wings.

The illness robbed her of her speech and mobility early on in 2013, and after being cared for at home and at the Life Adult Day Center, she became a resident of The Renaissance of Stillwater in 2018. The family would like to especially thank the Adult Life Center, The Renaissance of Stillwater, and a special thank you to the Stillwater Medical Center for the exceptional care she received.

She is survived by her husband of 58 years Rex; their daughter Coleen Christian and her husband Reggie Christian of Charleston, South Carolina; and their son, Timothy and his wife Cally of Alamogordo, New Mexico.

In lieu of flowers, friends are encouraged to donate to the Adult Life Center: 411 W Mathews Ave, Stillwater, OK 74075 or OSU Air Force ROTC Scholarship Fund:

Dear Rex, Coleen, Tim and families: I am deeply saddened to learn of Dee's passing. Though she has been in poor health and frail the past few years it may be blessing that she is now sharing a table at Our Father's side. She always offered a smile, joke or sincere HELLO when we were neighbors. May call upon your faith, family and friends at this time of loss.
Sincerely, Garry Bolstead.

Tim, Coleen, saddened to hear about the loss of Dee. She was such an important part of my life as I transitioned to OSU as she held my hand through the Financial Aid process and gave me so much encouragement to move forward and be strong. She went from “Tim’s mom” to being my friend and support network! I think of your family often and smile recalling so many great memories of you all. Condolences and sending prayers for peace to the entire family. - Joe Easley
