Cornelia “Connie” Mae (Gawhega) Gosney, a member of the Otoe-Missouria Tribe, Buffalo clan, was born on May 10, 1925 to Raymond C. Gawhega, Sr., and Pearl (Murray) Gawhega Maker. On November 11, 2020 she passed away in Stillwater, Oklahoma, at the age of 95. Her funeral service will begin at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, November 14, 2020 at Liberty Church in Perkins, Oklahoma. Her graveside service will begin at 10:00 a.m. Monday, November 16, 2020 at Grace Hill Cemetery in Perry, Oklahoma. Strode Funeral Home and Cremation in charge of arrangements.

Connie attended school in northern rural Noble County. She lived most of her earlier years in Perry and later life in Stillwater. During her life time, she was an entrepreneur three times: a café in Oklahoma City, dry cleaning in Oklahoma City, and Connie’s Canvas Shop in Perry.

In 1952, she met Clarence E. Gosney and on June 24, 1953 they were married in Newkirk, Oklahoma. They lived in Perry until Clarence died in 1972. While in Perry, Connie was a Camp Fire Leader, assistant to Scoutmaster Clarence Gosney Troop #15, and a brief time, they were Foster parents.

Mrs. Gosney was a graduate with certification from Perry Memorial Hospital first training, “Nurse Assistant/Aid Training”. On March 8, 2010 Connie was recognized as the AARP Native American Elder of the Year.

Mrs. Gosney is preceded in death by her parents; all of her 8 siblings; husband Clarence E. Gosney (1972); son Calvin E. Gosney (2010); daughter Rosetta P. (Sine) Bauserman (2019); grandson Phillip E. Gosney (2005); infant twin granddaughters, Elizabeth and Diane Gosney (19XX); grandson John P. Gosney (2018).

She is survived by her son Clement E. (Cynthia) Gosney of Perkins, OK; daughter Gracie A. Sine of Stillwater, OK; daughter-in-law Naomi M. Gosney of Stillwater, OK; grandsons A. Todd (Cindy) Khoury of Jenks, OK; W. Chad (Lana) Elliott of Yukon, OK; E. Ben Bauserman of Alexandria, VA; Clarence D. (Renae) Gosney of Jennings, OK; James W. (Jessica) Gosney of Perkins, OK; Amnon Z. (Sarah) Gosney of Bixby, OK; Chesil O. (Sierra) Gosney of Claremore, OK; granddaughter Sheila Rae (Kenny) Rhoads of Conway, AK; 10 great-grandsons, 13 great-granddaughters, 4 great-great-grandsons, 2 great-great-granddaughters; and many extended family members.

Pallbearers include Todd Khoury, William Chandler Elliott, Amnon Z. Gosney, Clarence D. Gosney, James W. Gosney, Chesil O. Gosney.

Honorary pallbearers include her great-grandsons Tyler Vernon, Ryan Vernon, Mellich Gosney, Jacob Gosney, Enoch Gosney, Nolan Arellanes, Gunnard Gosney, Phillip Gosney, Noah Gosney, Jonah Gosney, and Ryland Gosney; and her great-great-grandsons Dayton Vernon, Jonathan Vernon, Leevi Vernon and Elias Netherlin.
