Everett Leroy Gunkel, 73 passed on Monday, November 30, 2020 at his home. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. on Friday, December 4, 2020, at Lost Creek United Methodist Church in Stillwater, OK. Interment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery. The service will be live streamed from the Lost Creek Facebook page. Strode Funeral Home is in care of the arrangements.
Leroy was born on April 24, 1947, in Guthrie, Oklahoma, to Wallace (Pete) Gunkel and Viola Towle. He was married to Ruth Bridenstine on April 1, 2000 at Lost Creek and later to Ruby Disney on May 23, 2020.
Leroy graduated from Coyle High School. He served in the U.S. Army and is a Vietnam War veteran. He went on to work as a home builder in the Stillwater and Coyle area. He later worked for Payne County District 3 until his retirement in 2014.
He enjoyed fishing, camping, and completing woodworking projects. He loved his family and spending time with his family- especially his grandchildren. He was an active member of Lost Creek United Methodist Church, and he enjoyed participating in the Alaska Mission.
He is preceded in death by his parents; and wife Ruth Gunkel.
He is survived by his wife Ruby Disney Gunkel; daughter, Lara Brooks and husband Jeremy Brooks; grandchildren Luke and Blaire Brooks; Ruby's children, Don and Vickie Disney of Chandler, Walt and Leigh Disney of Norman, Linda and Jack Bowyer of Perkins, Sharon and David Kinzie of Perkins, Billy and Kathy Disney of Garber, and Keith and Terri Disney of Stillwater; and a host of grand and great-grandchildren.
