Obituary

Charles “Chuck” Arthur Baker, 82, of Stillwater, Oklahoma, passed away in his home at Legacy Village on Thursday, January 21, 2021.

Charles was born on January 16, 1939, to Leon and Dora (Childs) Baker in Douglas, Oklahoma. At age 12 Charles suffered a severe illness and survived pioneering lung surgery. After graduating from Douglas High School in 1957, he went on to study accounting at Oklahoma State University.

After graduation, he landed his first job as a manager in Roswell, New Mexico but soon returned to Stillwater and become the payroll director for Oklahoma State University. While working there he met the love of his life Sharon and they wed in May of 1966, going on to adopt two children Kristen and Bradley.

Charles worked hard to provide for his family and give them the life he felt they deserved. His family meant more to him than anything else in the world, something he often mentioned. He was unendingly proud of all his children and grandchildren.

Throughout most of his life, Charles was passionate about donating his time to church, choir, Lions Club, and Town and Gown Theatre. A loyal OSU Cowboys fan through and through, Charles could be found at almost every home basketball and football game for more than 60 years. In recent years he joined the Stillwater Community Singers and enjoyed weekly practices and participated in several concerts.

Charles was predeceased by his wife, Sharon, his parents, and sister Dorothy. He is survived by two children Kristen Hadley and husband, Rick of Stillwater, OK, and Brad Baker and his wife, Jennifer of Corpus Christy, TX; a niece, Robin Hadley of Enid, OK, nephew David Hadley and wife, Caitlyn of Enid, OK, five grandchildren, Samantha, Brittany, Garrett, Abby, and Kylee, and many other dear family and friends.

Memorial services will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Monday, January 25, 2021, at First United Methodist Church in Stillwater, OK under the direction of the Strode Funeral Home with Rev. Kyle Anderson officiating. Interment will be at the FUMC Columbarium and Memorial Garden in Stillwater, OK. A livestream of his service from the First United Methodist Church will be available on his personal obituary page at strodefh.com.

Memorial contributions can be made to Stillwater Community Singers, c/o Stillwater Community Center, 315 W 8th St, Stillwater, OK 74074 or Karman Legacy Hospice, 1311 S Western Rd, Stillwater, OK 74074.

I am probably his oldest living friend. We grew up together in Douglas. After he returned to Stillwater, we were roommates for
two plus years. We saw each other infrequently after I graduated. I always looked forward to visiting at the Alumni reunion each
year. We would occasionally get together for lunch when he came to OKC. When I was able to attend the football games we made a day of it with other friends. I am so sorry that I was not able to visit him due to the virus. I will miss him greatly, his absence will leave a void in my life. I have a head full of memories to cherish.....Glenn Downing

During my college years at OSU I was a student worker in the Payroll Office w/ Mr. Baker and his staff. He (and the entire staff) was always very kind. I appreciated the flexibility to work between classes and activities. My sympathy to your family in his passing.
