Dr. Alejandro (“Ale”) Peñaloza Vázquez, 63, of Stillwater, Oklahoma passed away on Wednesday, January 27, 2021 after a long fight with COVID-19 and is now at peace with God.
The virtual-only mass will be available at 10am CT on Friday, February 5, 2021 at the YouTube page of Stillwater’s St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z3X9lR-_l6I&feature=youtu.be).
Alejandro was born in Mexico City on June 17, 1957. He graduated from El Instituto Politecnico Nacional (IPN) with a Bachelor’s Degree in 1981 and continued on to receive his Master’s Degree, and ultimately his Doctorate in 1992.
After meeting on their first day of undergraduate classes at IPN, Alejandro married Perla Elia Encarnación Astudillo on August 21, 1982. They were married 38 years and have two loving children.
Alejandro worked as a lab manager, researcher, and professor in various academic institutions and companies across Mexico and the United States. Alejandro spent the majority of his professional career at Oklahoma State University (OSU), after moving from Mexico in 1994. Alejandro had a giant passion for life, a giant personality, and a giant heart. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, grandson, nephew, uncle, and cousin that made friends wherever he went and always enjoyed dancing, pranking, lively debate, and travel. He was actively involved in the Catholic, Latin American, and broader student community of Stillwater / OSU.
Alejandro is survived by the love of his life, Perla; daughter, Alejandra “Gatona” and her husband Ian; son, Daniel “Goritos” and his wife Lauren; granddaughter, Mary Elizabeth; grandson, Alexander; mother, Magdalena; sisters, Patricia, Magdalena, Rosa Elena; brother, Manuel; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Alejandro dedicated his life to the pursuit of knowledge and helping others to do the same. His family hopes to continue this special legacy through the endowment of an OSU scholarship for international students in the sciences in his name.

Alejandro nació en la Ciudad de México el 17 de junio de 1957. Terminó su licenciatura en el Instituto Politecnico Nacional (IPN) en 1982, seguido por la maestría y finalmente el doctorado en 1992.
Después de conocerse el primer día de clases en el IPN, Alejandro y Perla Elia Encarnación Astudillo se casaron el 21 de agosto de 1982. Estuvieron casados por 38 años y tuvieron 2 hijos.
Alejandro se desempeñó como científico en varias instituciones académicas y compañías en México y en los Estados Unidos. Alejandro pasó la mayoría de su vida profesional en Oklahoma State University (OSU), después de mudarse de México en 1994. Alejandro fue un gran hombre, que disfruto al máximo la vida, tenia una personalidad incomparable y un corazón muy noble. Fue realmente querido como esposo, padre, abuelo, hijo, nieto, sobrino, tío y primo. Le encantaba viajar y por donde iba hacía amigos y siempre estaba listo para bailar, bromear y platicar toda la noche. Estaba involucrado en la comunicada católica, hispana y estudiantil de Stillwater / OSU.
Deja al amor de su vida, Perla; su bella hija, Alejandra “Gatona” y esposo Ian; su hijo, Daniel “Goritos” y esposa Lauren; su mamá, Magdalena; sus hermanas, Patricia, Magdalena, Rosa Elena; su hermano, Manuel; y varios tíos, primos y amigos queridos.
Alejandro dedicó su vida a la ciencia y ayudar a las nuevas generaciones de científicos. Su familia desea continuar su legado atrevés del establecimiento de una beca en OSU para estudiantes internacionales de las ciencias.
