Virtes Michael Penny, age 90, passed from this life on February 2, 2021 at his family farm in Yale. Graveside funeral services will begin at 1:00 p.m. Friday, February 5, 2021 at Euchee Valley Memorial Park in Cushing with Pastor George Knapp officiating. Strode Funeral Home and Cremation is in charge of arrangements.

Virtes was born to Lee and Gladys (Porter) Penny on April 27, 1930 on the family farm in Yale. He was raised there and attended Council Bluff and Ripley schools, graduating from Ripley High School. He married Margie Fisher on June 2, 1955 in Cushing, and after her death in 1994 he married Lela Harris in 1995 in Stillwater. In addition to farming, he was a truck driver. He was selected as Payne County Farmer of the Month with Oklahoma Ranch and Farm in June 1973. Council Valley Baptist Church held his membership where he served as a deacon, and he was also a member of the Ripley School Board.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by both wives; his grandparents Mike and Edna Penny; his brothers Billy and Francis Penny; a half-brother Jim Kinyon; his daughter-in-law Liza Penny; and his great-granddaughter Audrey Grace Gray.
Surviving him are his children Michael Penny, Melinda Gray, and Pam Hazlip and husband Monty; his grandchildren Robert Hazlip III and wife Valerie, Matthew Hazlip and wife Julia, R.J. Gray and wife Jecole, Amanda Haines and husband Bill, Cody Penny and wife Stephanie and Nicholas Penny and wife Kyra. He is also survived by his half-brother Phillip Kinyon and wife Helga, and 17 great-grandchildren.
Serving as pallbearers will be his grandchildren Amanda Haines, Robert Hazlip, Matthew Hazlip, R.J. Gray, Cody Penny and Nicholas Penny. Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Harrison, John Harrison, Brian Harrison, and Rod Kirkpatrick.
