Gayla Jean Slaughter, 56, passed away on February 8, 2021 in Stillwater, OK.

Gayla was born in Laramie, WY on August 23, 1964 to Jerry and Wilma Wessels. She remained in the area while completing her education. She attended Eastern Wyoming Community College in Torrington then transferred to the University of Wyoming where she graduated with her bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. She was an avid reader, enjoyed her diary cattle while in 4-H and volunteered frequently for events at the Women of the Moose, where she was a life member.
Her career included teaching in rural and remote areas, customer service and bookkeeping, but her true enjoyment was spending time with her granddaughters Haley and Natalie.
Preceding her in death was her mother, Wilma Wessels.
She is survived by her father Jerry Wessels and his wife Debbie; son Rex Slaughter and wife Heidi; daughter Stacey Stephens and husband Todd; sisters Pam Riedesel and husband Eric; Tammy Heggie and husband Jerry; Grandchildren Haley Slaughter and Natalie Slaughter; and nieces Hanna Heggie and Rylie Heggie.
A funeral and celebration of her life will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, February 22, 2021 at the Strode Funeral Home Chapel in Stillwater, OK and will be live-streamed from her personal obituary page at www.strodefh.com . Strode Funeral Home and Cremation is in charge of arrangements.
