Verlin “Don” Luster, 87, passed away April 16, 2021 at his home in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 21, 2021 at the Friends Chapel Church, 12212 South Redlands Road, Coyle, OK. with Reverend Jerrod Graham officiating. He will be laid to rest at Oak Grove Cemetery following the service. Strode Funeral Home and Cremation is in charge of the arrangements.
Don was born September 3, 1933 in Payne County, Oklahoma to Clarence Everett and Emily Juanita (Longan) Luster. Don attended Progress School until the eighth grade and graduated from Coyle High School in 1951. After high school he attended Oklahoma A&M. Don enlisted in the Army in January 1954 where he served two years as an Air Flight Mechanic. He was stationed in Germany and was awarded the Good Conduct Medal for exemplary conduct. After returning, he began his long career as a Seismic Engineer with Geophysical Services Incorporated, working all through South America, Central America and Asia for GSI and Texas Instruments retiring in 1986.
Don married Fern Chamberlin August 10, 1961 in Cody, Wyoming. The couple lived in California, Texas and Columbia before returning to Oklahoma in 1968 to raise their family of eight children and seeing each one graduate from Perkins-Tryon High School.
Don enjoyed farming, raising cattle and kids. In his spare time, he and Fern liked to fish, spend time at the lake camping and boating with family and friends. Above all, he enjoyed his children and grandchildren. His family was truly the light of his life. He knew no stranger and there was always a warm welcome and room at the table.
Don was preceded in death by his parents and one brother Edward Leon “Hossy” Luster.
Don is survived by his wife of almost 60 years; son Dan Hubbard and wife Joan, daughter Jody Hubbard and partner Darrell, son Tim Chamberlin and wife Kelly, daughter Kelli Franklin and husband Gene, daughter Tari Bickell and husband Darrel, son Don Luster and wife Melinda, son John Luster and wife Sandy, daughter Lori Luster; 18 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
