Creola Vesta (Hesser) Luster, 100, passed away April 27, 2021 at her home in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 3rd, 2021 at the Strode Funeral Home Chapel, 610 S. Duncan Street, Stillwater, OK. with Reverend Andy Campbell officiating. She will be laid to rest at the Perkins Cemetery following the service. Strode Funeral Home and Cremation is coordinating the arrangements.

Vesta was born October 14, 1920 in Stillwater, Oklahoma to Vannie D. and Mable E. (Miller) Hesser. She started her schooling at the Eureka School Consolidated near Glencoe where all the Hesser children attended. Vesta graduated from Glencoe High School in 1938. After high school she became a beautician working in Stillwater. Later, she worked as a clerk and bookkeeper with her cousins at the Hesser Brothers Photography Studio in Enid, Oklahoma. When World War II began, she left Oklahoma to work as a secretary for the War Department in Washington DC. She returned home to Enid before the war ended, working again with the Hesser Brothers Studio.

Vesta married United States Army Air Corps Captain Bernard W. Luster November 3, 1945. After a honeymoon in New Orleans the couple lived in Enid, Oklahoma. The military sent them to bases in Texas, Montana and California before returning to Stillwater, Oklahoma in 1961 to raise their family of two children and seeing each one graduate from universities in Oklahoma.

She and her husband owned and operated Luster’s Grocery in Stillwater. She encouraged and supported Bernard while he received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Oklahoma State University. After Bernard’s retirement from the military, he began a teaching career at OSU which eventually took the family to Northeastern Oklahoma A & M College in Miami, Oklahoma. While in Miami she briefly worked at the college’s post office. Bernard lived a good life and passed away in 1992.

Vesta enjoyed her childhood on the Hesser family farm. She liked to read, garden, cook and watch her family grow. She took great delight in her grandchildren. Above all, her family was truly the light of her life. There was always a warm welcome into her home. She was a member of Yale Avenue Christian Church in Tulsa. She was a child of God.

Vesta was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Kenneth Amos Hesser and Keith Olaf Hesser, daughter Carol Ann and her husband.
Vesta is survived by son Van W. Luster and wife Becky, and son David B. Luster and wife Annette. She has three grandchildren – Benjamin, James and Lucas.

She touched the lives of so many others who considered her Mom, Grandma and Aunt Vesta.

In lieu of flowers, donations will be used to honor Vesta’s favorite cause, Folds of Honor. Their motto: Honor Their Sacrifice. Educate Their Legacy. They are dedicated to providing scholarships to spouses and children of America’s fallen and disabled service members. Donations may be mailed to Folds of Honor, Department #13, Tulsa, OK, 74182 or by visiting
