Helen Grace Downey, 88, of Stillwater passed away May 3, 2021 surrounded by love. Helen will be available for viewing at Strode Funeral Home on Wednesday and Thursday May 5th and 6th from 8:00 am to 8:00pm. Per Helens request her casket will not be open at her service. Services to celebrate her life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, May 7, 2021 at the Strode Funeral Home Chapel and will be live-streamed from her personal obituary page at www.strodefh.com. Interment will follow at Fairlawn Cemetery in Stillwater, Oklahoma.

Helen was born to William and Mary (Bradley) Schafers in Stillwater where she met and married Max Downey in 1953. They lived north of Stillwater her entire life building a farm and family together. Together, they raised pigs and later cattle and were prominent members of the local community.
She is remembered as a vibrant person who laughed and loved easily. She was a devoted wife to Max Elmer Downey, a wonderful mother to her children, and she fully enjoyed her role as a grandmother. Helen was a treasured friend to many who would consider her to be family. It was her goal each day in life to make someone around her smile. She enjoyed quilting with her children, friends and grandchildren as well as putting together puzzles.
Helen is survived by her children: Wayne Downey and wife Jan, Tom Downey, Carol Milner, Annette Casto and husband Jeff, Jan Wolff and husband David as well as 9 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
