Susan was born December 12, 1946, to David Leon Barr and Twylla Dean Stone Barr in Enid, Oklahoma. She grew up in Medford, Oklahoma, attended Medford Public Schools and graduated Medford High School in 1965, where she served as a cheerleader and Medford FFA Queen. In 1965, her father, along with her family, moved to Blackwell, Oklahoma, establishing Barr Funeral Home. Upon graduation from high school, Susan attended Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, majoring in the College of Home Economics. In 1966 at OSU, she met her future husband, Johnnie R. (Bob) Kropp from Lockney, Texas, that was also attending OSU as an Animal Husbandry major. That fateful first date in 1966 eventually resulted in their marriage on August 16, 1968 and a whirlwind of great events, places and memories over 52 years of marriage. Their undergraduate years at OSU and the many friendships that were made were very special to Susan. Susan and Bob’s only child, Paul David, was born in 1968 in Stillwater, Oklahoma. After her husband’s graduation from OSU in 1969, they lived in Plainview, Texas, where her husband was engaged in his family’s farming and ranching operation. In 1970, an opportunity for her husband to return to OSU to pursue an advanced degree arose, resulting in their return to Stillwater. Susan was able to complete her degree in home economics in 1972. She remained home raising their son until the late 1970’s when she embarked on her own career as a receptionist and administrative assistant for three prominent businessmen in Stillwater until her retirement in 2013. She had the pleasure of working for Dr. Tom Covington in his medical practice, Dr. G.A. Razook in his dental practice and her final 18 years with Rick Walstad of E Z Drill. She loved working for and with each of these great men and considered them more close friends than her bosses. Some of her greatest joys over her 35-year career were getting up early in the morning, getting very professionally dressed, going to work and meeting new people every day. She knew so many people in Stillwater and they knew her. These friendships were dear to her heart and she remained very close to many of them throughout the years.
Her main hobby was shopping. Susan enjoyed shopping for clothes, shoes and jewelry. There was always a bargain somewhere; her hobby was finding that special accessory at just the right price. She prided herself in looking her best, never to go out in public unless she was dressed for the occasion.
Her true love was her husband, Bob. She enjoyed being by his side as he pursued his career in the Department of Animal Science at OSU, judging livestock at major state, national and international expositions, his leadership and advisory activities with cattle breed associations and his ranch consulting services. The ability to travel throughout the U.S. and internationally, visiting many extraordinary places, enjoying exciting events, making new friends and memories, was very special to her. She enjoyed living life to the fullest. Numerous people that crossed her path over the years have remained her very close friends. So many good times and memories were had by all.
Oklahoma State University and the color orange were very important to Susan. A lifetime member of the OSU Alumni Association, she truly loved getting dressed for gameday and attending the games. The excitement of the games and the fellowship that she enjoyed with her close friends attending the events made her day.
Though her remaining family is small, they each meant the world to her. Her brother, David Shawn Barr, has been by her side his entire life. Her son, Paul David, was her bed-rock. His wife, Missy, and their children, Carson and Kennedy, were her cherished blessings. Her favorite time in her later years was watching her grandchildren growing into amazing young people, Carson excelling in baseball and football at the state and collegiate level and Kennedy excelling in state and national cheerleading competitions. She cherished her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a younger brother, Brian. Survivors include her husband, Bob Kropp of Stillwater, Oklahoma; a son, Paul David and his wife, Missy Rose Kropp of Oologah, Oklahoma; and two grandchildren, Carson and Kennedy Kropp of Oologah, Oklahoma; and a brother, David Shawn Barr of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
