Obituary for Shirley Anne Steincamp

Shirley Anne Steincamp passed away peacefully at her home in Stillwater, OK on July 24, 2022.

Shirley was born to Esther (Helton) Rector and Earl M Rector on October 17, 1930, in Vinita, OK. She was their third daughter. In her early years, she was also nurtured by her maternal grandparents, Ida and Isaac Helton, who lived in Vinita. The family lived in Craig County until they moved from Ketchum to Stillwater in 1945, near the end of World War II. Shirley graduated from Stillwater High School.

Shirley became a member of the First Baptist Church in Vinita when she was seven years old. Along with her family, she later was a member of the First Baptist Church in Stillwater.

Shirley and Edgar Allan Steincamp were married and lived in Stillwater most of their lives. They had six beautiful children: Linda Irene, Bruce Lee, Marsha Kay, Allan Grant, Sara Jane, and Dawn Lynne. They all attended Stillwater Public Schools and all graduated from Stillwater High School except for Linda, who graduated from Meeker High School.

Shirley was a talented seamstress and also enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and crafts. She made baby blankets and caps for charities.

When her children were older, Shirley worked as a secretary at OSU and retired in 1995 as secretary to the Head of the Agronomy Department.

In addition to her parents, Shirley was predeceased by her husband Edgar Steincamp, her sons Bruce Steincamp and Allan Steincamp, grandson Tyler Martin and son-in-law Dave Martin and brothers-in-law Lynn Steincamp, Al Steincamp and Ted Steincamp, Charles Sutton and Harold Sare.

Surviving family include her sisters Jean Sutton, Kaneohe, HI, and Mary Lou Sare, Stillwater, OK; her daughters Linda Moore, Grove, OK, Marsha Odell, Haydenville, MA, Jane Martin, Edmond, OK and Dawn Steincamp, Stillwater, OK. Other survivors include Shirley’s grandchildren Justin Martin, Edmond, OK, Dwight Prather, Grove, OK and Mikayla Robin, Sapulpa, OK, great-grandson Everest Emberton, Sapulpa, OK, and niece Victoria Philbrick, Wichita, KS, and nephews John Sutton, Honolulu, HI and Adam Sutton, Kaneohe, HI and several great-nieces and great-nephews and many cousins in Washington, Oregon, California, Illinois and Texas. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Pat Steincamp, Stillwater, OK.

The family would like to thank the wonderful nurses and caregivers of the Karman Legacy Hospice who provided end-of-life care along with her daughter Dawn and her sister Mary Lou.

A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, August 1, 2022 at Fairlawn Cemetery under the direction of Strode Funeral Home.
